He recommended requesting copies of higher‑ranked applications through public information requests to understand why those projects were funded at lower costs.
Councilors discussed technical reasons projects may differ in cost — for example, groundwater systems generally require less treatment than surface water plants — but nonetheless supported submitting written comments and inviting TWDB staff to visit. Som said the public comment deadline was Sept. 15 and urged prompt action. The council agreed direction to staff was sufficient for the government affairs liaison to file the letters; a formal council vote was not required.
City staff will transmit written comments before the posted deadline, request application materials for projects ranked ahead of Lago Vista, and ask TWDB to schedule a site visit to Lago Vista water and wastewater facilities.
The council noted the importance of these SRF programs to the city27s capital plan and the potential effect on long‑term tax and rate planning depending on whether the projects secure state funding.
