Flower Mound hosts North Texas Guard Games; CAC lifeguards place at state

Kristen Hinton, aquatic supervisor for the Flower Mound Community Activity Center, briefed the Parks Board on the town’s role hosting the North Texas Guard Games and on local lifeguard training and competition results.
Hinton said the Guard Games test lifeguarding skills, critical thinking and teamwork across events such as obstacle courses, spinal rescues, CPR and rescue relays. The town hosted about 47 teams this year with up to 300 people on site for the regional competition, she said.
Hinton credited a mix of city staff and volunteers for running the competition and said the CAC sent two adult teams and junior-guard teams to state. “This year, we had 2 teams and they actually took first overall and they took second overall and both made it to state,” she said; at state the town’s team placed sixth overall, Hinton added.
Hinton described the junior guards program as a training pipeline: instructors taught American Red Cross skills during the week before games and junior teams competed on scaled versions of the same events. She said the junior guards medaled this year, taking second and third in regional competition.
Board members praised the CAC staff, noting frequent public compliments about lifeguard professionalism and saying the program promotes safety and community trust. No formal vote was required for the presentation.
Hinton also showed photos and trophies from the past four years and said that hosting the regional competition supports the CAC’s community-engagement goals.
