Long Beach Gives organizers told the City Council on Sept. 16 that the annual nonprofit fundraising campaign has returned for its seventh year with record participation and fundraising to date.
Michelle Byerly of Nonprofit Partnership said the campaign has 290–291 nonprofits participating this year and had raised “almost $700,000” so far. Carrie Eldridge, the campaign manager, said the initiative helps nonprofits bring in unrestricted funds and fosters collaboration between nonprofits and local businesses.
Everett Glenn, founder and executive director of BOSS (Business of Student Success), described the program's impact on his organization. Glenn said BOSS has raised $500,000 through Long Beach Gives over seven years and credited the campaign with supporting measurable student outcomes, including higher proficiency in math and reading and college attendance among program participants.
Council members thanked organizers and noted the city’s recent support for the campaign, including a relaunch of an employee giving program. No new funding or formal council action was taken during the presentation.
Organizers encouraged residents and businesses to attend Long Beach Gives events happening across the city in the coming days and to support participating nonprofits.
