Wylie resident urges better county communication on sheriff's funding after budget workshop

Barbara Dawn Lyke of Wylie used the public‑comment period to tell the Collin County Commissioners Court she wants improved county communication about the sheriff’s department’s needs following a recent budget workshop.
“My name is Barbara Dawn Lyke. My husband's name is Dan Lyke. Our home address is 130 Squirrel Ridge, Wylie, Texas, 75098,” Lyke said. She said rapid population growth in Collin County and adjoining cities brings extra responsibilities for county agencies and described a visit that took place after the county’s budget workshop in which Jim Skinner invited the commissioners to see the sheriff’s operations firsthand.
Lyke said the sheriff had written “many letters” to the commissioners requesting assistance and that the sheriff received only one letter back from the court. She urged the court to improve communication before next year’s budget process and praised the Collin County Sheriff’s Department’s service to residents.
