Planning Executive Wes Morrison updated the Bedford Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 11 about upcoming planning materials and meeting scheduling, and commissioners announced the resignation of Commission member April Wheeler.
Morrison told commissioners they should receive the full draft of Module 1 of the city’s proposed zoning ordinance the following day and asked whether commissioners preferred to receive the entire 300‑plus‑page draft at once or in grouped chapters for incremental review. Commissioners discussed alternatives: some said they preferred chapter‑by‑chapter packets to facilitate coordinated review, while at least one commissioner said they wanted the full document available for reference even if they reviewed it piecemeal. Morrison said staff would group related chapters together (for example, authority and administrative sections) and provide printed copies if commissioners wished.
Morrison also presented a short update on recent items the commission had forwarded to the City Council, and he told the body that the Stonegate Shopping Center item that had been before the commission in August had been approved by Council earlier that week. He noted that the commission would not meet again for the remainder of September and that a special or regular meeting would likely be scheduled in October; staff said they would notify commissioners when draft materials and printed copies were ready.
Chair Bruce Emory then announced that Commissioner April Wheeler had resigned because she was relocating for work. Emory said Wheeler’s resignation was effective before the meeting and that the City Council currently had applications on file to fill vacancies on commissions and boards. Commissioners asked procedural questions about replacement timing; staff replied that council would handle appointments and that application reviews were in process.
The discussion covered logistics for receiving and reviewing the zoning draft, printing preferences, and timing of future special meetings; commissioners and staff agreed to coordinate delivery of material and to consider grouped chapters to avoid fragmentary, overlapping reviews.
