San Patricio County commissioners voted to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Gonzales County to provide inmate housing in circumstances of jail overcrowding or county emergency evacuations.
The court heard a short presentation describing the MOU’s purpose — to provide reciprocal or one-way inmate housing capacity in the event of local overcrowding or a declared emergency. A motion to approve the MOU was moved and seconded; commissioners voted in favor and the motion carried.
The agreement is intended to increase capacity and emergency flexibility; staff did not present cost or bed-count specifics at the meeting and said the MOU provides a framework to arrange housing when needed.
