Commissioners approve $331,000 amendment for Coastal Bend projects, including outdoor classrooms

San Patricio County commissioners approved an amendment to the county’s memorandum of understanding with Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries to add $331,000 in Gold Mesa project funding for four local projects.
Grant manager Melanie Cooper presented the amendment and listed the projects added to the MOU: Project 8 — Ingleside On The Bay Pocket Park Phase 2; Project 9 — Agape Fellowship and Training Center septic-to-sewer conversion; Project 10 — Fred Jones Nature Sanctuary habitat and public access enhancement Phase 2; and Project 11 — San Patricio County outdoor classrooms. A commissioner moved to approve; the motion was seconded and carried.
When asked where the outdoor classrooms would be located, the presenter said they include sites in Sinton, Odem and Mathis, and that participating schools could join in subsequent years as the program develops. Cooper described the classroom work as building gardens and delivering estuary-focused instruction to children.
The amendment passed with unanimous support from those on the dais and directs staff and the Coastal Bend partner to implement the additional project work under the existing MOU terms. Documents attached to the agenda were noted as linking to the same MOU; staff said they would review the uploaded attachments for accuracy.
