Carmel-by-the-Sea city staff said the city council approved a multifaceted paving project and authorized release of a request for proposals (RFP) for a joint public-works and police department building.
Staff described the paving item as a "conglomerate paving project" that will include a partnership with the County of Monterey to repave Ocean Avenue all the way up to Highway 1. A city staff member called the partnership "a big deal" and said it will benefit many residents.
On the public-works and police building, staff said the council approved an RFP that defines the city's needs for an architect partner. The RFP will be open for a set period; proposals will be reviewed by an internal committee that will include two council ad hoc members (the mayor and Council Member Barron) plus technical staff: the city manager (staff speaker), Chip, Chief Treyer and Public Works Director Ken Wysocki. Staff said the committee will recommend a preferred proposal to the council; the council will make the final selection.
Staff cautioned that approval to release the RFP is an early step and that additional steps will follow, including review of submitted proposals and a council recommendation.
