A Carmel-by-the-Sea resident told the Historic Resources Board that a recent action has damaged a declared historic wall behind a downtown parking area.
Cindy Lloyd told the board she was shown photographs that she said show “a great big eyebolt into the historic wall and a yellow plastic chain across” placed to prevent parking behind the steakhouse near Seventh and Dolores. Lloyd said the wall has been declared historic and called the alteration “a desecration of something that is historic.”
Board staff asked whether they could inspect the site and assess the condition; staff replied, “We will.” Lloyd said she did not know what recourse exists and left the matter “in your hands.”
The board did not take formal action during the meeting. Staff indicated they would look into the reported damage and assess potential next steps; no timeline for the assessment or any enforcement action was announced.
