The Barry County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole on Sept. 2 voted to recommend the Board of Commissioners accept a $10,000 donation from 270 Inc. to support the county animal shelter's trap-neuter-release (TNR) program.
A representative from the animal shelter, identified in the meeting as Morgan, described the long-running partnership with 270 Inc. and said the program has run several times over the past seven to 10 years. Morgan said the shelter provides services including neutering, rabies vaccination and ear-tipping as part of the TNR effort.
"This is a grant that we've done several times in the past. 270 has been a great partner for the animal shelter," Morgan said.
Commissioners asked logistical questions about scheduling and publicizing TNR clinic days; Morgan said residents typically call the shelter to arrange appointments and that the program has used shelter funds and donations in prior years.
The chair called for a motion. The committee recorded a motion by Commissioner Bassett with support from Commissioner Smelker to recommend accepting the $10,000 donation. The motion carried by voice vote.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board of Commissioners for final acceptance and to authorize the shelter to apply the funds to the TNR program.
