County health department renews medical malpractice coverage covering immunizations, TB nursing and jail services

Mike Scribe, director of operations for the St. Joseph County Health Department, asked the Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 2 to approve medical malpractice insurance through General Star Indemnity Company.
Scribe said the policy is required to cover the department's clinical services, primarily immunizations and tuberculosis nursing, with limited coverage for other public‑health nursing services. He also told the board the policy covers department work performed at the county jail, so those services are included under the same policy.
The commissioners moved to approve the insurance coverage. Commissioner Morton, Commissioner Hazen and Commissioner Maxmeyer each voted aye and the motion carried.
