Board ratifies energy bond, reviews ongoing construction and approves priority repairs

The Anchor Bay School Board ratified the sale of $10,590,000 in energy bonds at its Aug. 27 meeting and approved a set of priority facility repairs and short-term contracts.
Bond ratification and projects: Administration explained the bond sale will finance energy- and facility-related work, including a solar project at the high school that Centrix presented previously. Board members approved a ratifying resolution formalizing the sale and directing staff to proceed.
Construction and capital repairs: Superintendent Tim Jankowski gave a photo tour of summer work: new clocks and generator backups, window replacements and insulated glass at the high school entrance, roofing progress, updated media center furniture, a new student success center and an updated life-skills room. He said the district added rooftop HVAC units, univents in classrooms and updated the playgrounds and counseling spaces. Jankowski said further work will continue into the fall and that construction phasing allows the district to stage fences and more-permanent perimeter solutions for schools such as Naldred.
Immediate awards: The board approved two short-term awards for priority sidewalk and asphalt repairs: Fuerza Concrete for alternate concrete work at the high school and Middle School South (approximately $108,600) and Asphalt Specialists Inc. for asphalt repairs (approx. $58,400). Administration said these repairs address immediate safety and access concerns; larger parking and approach work will come later in bond phases.
Why it matters: The bond and repairs finance energy-efficiency and safety projects and respond to visible facility needs; construction phasing affects school operations and timing for permanent route and perimeter changes.
