Board proclaims September 2025 Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month

The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 9 proclaimed September 2025 as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, recognizing local efforts by county behavioral health and community partners to expand training and outreach.
Chair Paul Canepa read the proclamation and introduced representatives from the county Behavioral Health Services and the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Michelle Avila, youth services program manager for suicide prevention at CAPC, described the Yellow Ribbon community and school programs the council and Behavioral Health operate and said the campus has trained thousands of students and community members this year. “When someone in our community is struggling… they need to know they are not alone,” Avila said during remarks.
Faye Vieira of San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services emphasized links to local resources and provided the county’s behavioral-health phone number for people seeking help.
Supervisors thanked the local organizations and endorsed the proclamation; staff and community partners took a group photo with the document.
