The county provided a staffing update that described eight employee separations between June and August and outlined a planned hiring schedule to replenish critical public-safety roles.
The DCD director said eight employees left or were separated between June and August. Reasons included three training-related departures, one termination for policy violation, and four resignations for other job opportunities; one of those who resigned remains on a part-time basis. The county commission has approved seven positions in the budget to address vacancies: five telecommunicator positions and two CTO positions.
The director said that, as of the report, the department had scheduled a hiring date of Sept. 22 and had four candidates slated to receive conditional offer letters, with an additional candidate already extended an offer. Another hiring date was already scheduled for January. Staff also described a cross-training effort that began Sept. 1 to reduce disruption during technology transitions.
The director characterized the recent CAD/system transition as “a big project with a lot more technology” than prior transitions but said the transition had gone well from a dispatcher perspective. Board members praised the professionalism of dispatch staff during the changeover.
No formal policy changes were adopted during the update; the board received the staffing report and scheduled hires for implementation under the approved budget positions.
