Sumner County approved a motion to move $1,000,000 from its regular checking account to the county money market account during the meeting.
County staff presented account balances and recommended the transfer to earn higher interest. “I'm suggesting that we put another million in the money market,” said Carolyn, a county staff member who delivered the financial report. She told the board the county’s month-to-date interest was “13 almost $14,000,” and that funds could be returned to the regular account by check if needed.
The discussion clarified the transfer would come from the regular account. A motion to transfer the funds was made and seconded; the board voted in favor. The action was entered as a budget adjustment under new business.
The vote does not change the bank relationship — the accounts are at the same bank — and staff said the transfer would leave funds available in the regular account for ongoing needs. The county did not specify the regular-account ending balance after the transfer beyond the figures provided at the meeting.
The decision follows the routine financial-report procedure used at the meeting; no other budget reallocations were adopted at the same time.
