Council authorizes airport pre-application and bidding for Enterprise Rescue hangar; $500,000 state grant cited

The Enterprise City Council on Sept. 2 authorized staff to submit a pre-application for fiscal year 2026 airport improvement funding to the Alabama Department of Transportation and approved a request to advertise bids for a new Enterprise Rescue Life Flight hangar at the municipal airport.
City engineer Barry Mott told the council the city has a $500,000 state grant toward the hangar and that engineers from Barge Design Solutions are finalizing plans; a 90% set of plans was reviewed with the engineer. Mott said the city executed a contract with Barge Design and that the next step is to advertise bids; once bids are returned the council will review and consider award.
Mott also said a prior agreement between the city, Enterprise Rescue and PHI called for any cost above the $500,000 grant to be the responsibility of the rescue operator to negotiate with the city. The council approved the request to seek bids and adopted the airport pre-application resolution, both by unanimous voice vote.
Separately, staff reported the relocation of County Road 606 at the airport is progressing under an existing grant and that the project has reached the 30% construction plan milestone. The council's pre-application approval allows the city to request additional state funding for other airport improvements in the next funding cycle; no new grant award was reported at the meeting.
