Rutherford County mayor presents quarterly capital projects vision, flags Bank of America purchase and public-safety priorities

The mayor of Rutherford County told the Property Management Committee on Tuesday evening that the mayor's office will deliver quarterly capital‑projects updates and asked the committee to help set priorities for a list that includes purchase of the Bank of America building, a first‑responder administration site at 814 South Church, convenience‑center replacements, juvenile court expansion and an accelerated study for a new adult detention center.

The mayor said the Bank of America building on East Main is under contract for $9.2 million and that county staff are conducting standard due diligence, including a 120‑day inspection window. "It is my hope … that by end of this year, we can begin the process we can close on that piece of property," the mayor said. He asked the committee to weigh in on departmental programming so that offices displaced by needed repairs to the Goldstein building can be moved into the new space if appropriate.
