Council hears slow but steady progress on hospital transition and multiple economic development prospects

On economic development, the council was told a Zaxby's transaction involving the industrial board is expected to close early next week and that Wendy’s construction is ahead of schedule. The official said multiple prospects are reviewing sites including the Energex site, Joe Davis Park area, and a potential new industrial park that could include a 50,000-square-foot tenant. “We have millions and millions of dollars worth of stuff going on and more looking at us,” the staff member said.
The council heard that the state’s West Alabama Highway project between the city and the county line may soon see a construction contract signed and that additional sections could move forward, a development the official described as potentially a “game changer” for local growth.
