Staff said the partners have committed to cover the first year of rent and are raising funds to cover subsequent years; the rent amount was discussed during the meeting as $15 a month.
Officials said the partners would provide office space, classrooms for education and field trips, and a place for grant work tied to the nature preserve. The city’s needed clarifications include insurance provisions (listing each party as additional insured where appropriate) and the allocation of utility and maintenance responsibilities under the lease and MOU.
Council members and staff emphasized that the proposed structure is intended to keep the city from taking on rental obligations while still allowing city employees to work on preserve-related programs from the Rock School site. No final lease or MOU was signed; staff said they would return with draft language after the partners and preservation society reach agreement.
