Bradley County Mayor Davis said county and city officials will meet to work out logistics for an already approved agreement that compensates the county when certain annexations reduce county fire-tax revenue.
Davis told commissioners the agreement contains a paragraph that spells out which annexations qualify and that the committee will discuss how the process will work. "The city will come back hopefully tomorrow or at least have discussions about how they expect it to work," Davis said. He said the city agreed in certain areas to "hold us harmless for a period of time" by providing reimbursement for lost fire-tax revenue in qualifying annexations.
Commissioners and staff discussed operational issues related to which fire station is dispatched. Davis said the county wants to ensure "the closest station" is toned so calls receive the fastest possible response, and noted there are instances in which a city station may be physically closer to a county resident. He gave examples of county residents who currently are closer to city stations and said the committee will discuss potential approaches; commissioners said agreements will ultimately need approval by both the city and county bodies.
No formal action was taken; commissioners were notified that the committee will meet to finalize logistics and that any proposed agreement will return to both governing bodies for approval.
