Dothan City Commission tables FY2026 operating and capital budget until Sept. 16

The Dothan City Commission on Sept. 2 tabled Resolution 2025-208, the proposed FY2026 operating and capital budget, and directed that related appropriation items be considered at the commission's next meeting on Sept. 16.
Commission discussion and a request for additional time to review triggered a motion to table the budget. City staff told the commission tabling would still allow the city to approve the budget at one later meeting before the fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2025, and said operations could continue while the commission completes additional discussion.
Commissioners voted to table Resolution 2025-208 after a motion and second; the clerk announced the item was tabled until Sept. 16. Because the budget was tabled, the commission also moved to table three related items: Resolution 2025-210 (grant/industry promotion agreement with the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce), Resolution 2025-211 (cash appropriations to various agencies for FY2026), and Resolution 2025-212 (appropriations to Dothan City Schools for FY2026). Each of those items was tabled to Sept. 16 by formal motion and second.
Commissioners and staff emphasized that tabling was intended to provide time for additional conversation and did not, according to staff, make approval impossible before the Oct. 1 start of the fiscal year.
The commission returned other, unrelated items to the agenda after tabling the budget and its dependent appropriation items.
