Administrators said the district will advertise to fill the position permanently.
Board member Mike Long asked whether Shellman (Chalmette) High School has only one security guard. District staff clarified that the front-desk security employee handles check-in and visitor screening; school resource officers (SROs) are employed by the sheriff's office and not district employees. The district said Chalmette High School has three SROs assigned there plus a truancy officer and residency investigator who are based at the high school when not performing duties elsewhere.
The personnel list for 2025'26, which lists all district employees, was distributed to board members. Administrators described the returning retirees as an interim measure to maintain continuity in classrooms while permanent recruitment proceeds.
