County project manager: NX2 building and jail work are ahead of schedule; ICE section expected by December

Lamar Allen provided commissioners with a construction update on two county projects, reporting that the NX2 building's second and third floors are complete and that final inspections are expected this week.
Allen said the county plans to relocate staff to Dexter and begin work on the NX2 building's first floor around Oct. 1, and that contractors have promised the entire building will be finished by Thanksgiving. "Everything it looks real good," Allen said.
On the jail project, Allen said work is ahead of the original two-year window: exterior louvers and fans have been replaced, painting is underway, much of the mechanical and plumbing work is complete and most remaining work is finishing trades. Allen reported the contractor indicated the section intended for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be ready by December.
Commissioners did not take any formal action on the projects during the informational session. Staff offered to provide tours and said they would continue to monitor contractor progress and inspections.
