The Tuscaloosa City Public Projects Committee approved a professional services agreement with consultant John Galloway for annual bridge inspections with a contract total of $72,400.
Staff presenter Zach said the contract will cover inspections for 17 bridges scheduled for inspection this year. He explained that inspections are driven by state reporting requirements and schedules maintained in the state system; most bridges are inspected every two years, while some in poorer condition are inspected annually. Zach said the city is responsible for approximately 46 bridges in total, including at least one pedestrian bridge.
Zach also said the inspection work and paperwork will be submitted to the state’s system (ALDOT reporting). The contract was moved, seconded and approved; the meeting transcript records voice assent rather than an individual roll call.
Why it matters: Bridge inspections are a routine safety and compliance activity that informs maintenance, repair and replacement priorities and satisfies state reporting requirements. Inspecting the 17 bridges this year ensures the city meets inspection schedules and documents bridge conditions for ALDOT and internal planning.
Next steps: Galloway will complete inspections and submit required paperwork to ALDOT and city staff will track any recommended repairs or follow‑up actions arising from the inspections.
