Powhatan school board approves attendance exemptions, personnel docket and consent agenda (all votes unanimous)

The Powhatan County School Board on Sept. 9 approved multiple administrative items in a series of unanimous votes, including exemptions from compulsory attendance for several student case numbers, the personnel docket and the consent agenda.

The board first certified that a recently concluded closed meeting complied with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and Code of Virginia §2.2-3712(D); the certification was read into the record and adopted by voice vote.

Board members then approved a slate of exemptions from compulsory attendance. The meeting transcript records motions and seconds for each case number and shows the board adopting each request by an affirmative vote recorded as 5-0. The approved case numbers were recorded in the meeting as REFY26-3, REFY26-4, REFY26-5, REFY26-6, REFY26-7, KDFY26-2, KDFY26-3, KDFY26-4, KDFY26-5 and KDFY26-6.

The board approved the personnel docket and addendum “as written” and then voted to approve the consent agenda. A roll-call style confirmation took place and the chair announced the consent agenda approved 5-0. The consent agenda as presented on the agenda package included items such as the Head Start interagency annual agreement (2025–26) and a $235 donation from the Powhatan Junior Women’s Club to support grocery closets at the middle and high school; the Head Start agreement had been added to the agenda that morning and was included in the approved consent agenda.

All of the recorded formal actions at this meeting were adopted without recorded opposition. Where a specific mover or seconder was not named in the audio transcript, the meeting record shows the motion was made and seconded and that the board voted 5-0 to approve.

No contested or divided votes were recorded for these consent and administrative items at the Sept. 9 session.
