Board approves contract to make interim superintendent permanent

The Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education voted on Sept. 9 to approve the contract that removes the interim label and names the district's current leader as superintendent.
Board members praised the district leader for stability, instructional leadership and engagement with staff and the community before voting. "Everywhere I go throughout Lincoln, I hear good, compliments and support for us taking the word interim away from you and making you a permanent, superintendent," said one board member during the discussion.
Board members described multiple visits to schools and consistent feedback from community members and staff as factors in their decision. Several trustees said the leader had connected well with teachers, students and families and had used the district's executive team effectively.
A motion to approve the superintendent contract was made and seconded; the board then called the roll. The roll-call results recorded in the meeting were unanimous in favor: Miss Mumgaard, Mister Shabastov, Miss Beyer, Mister Goodwin, Doctor Johnson Farr, Missus Krivilovic and Doctor Rauner all voted yes. The board did not record any abstentions on this item.
Board members said the decision was supported by input from community members at public events and by staff. The board scheduled no additional public hearing or procedural steps for this contract during the Sept. 9 meeting; the contract approval was adopted during the regular session.
The vote followed extended remarks of appreciation from trustees, who credited the leader with "a complete vision of what we should be doing" and with connecting to staff at all levels. The board adjourned after completing scheduled reports and announcements.
