Commissioners report: phase 42 emergency food and shelter review, Habitat Build Days plan, NACO appointments and regional forums

The clerk’s office said a resolution would be brought to allow staff to participate on county time rather than using personal leave; the board also proposed reducing the event to one county-organized day this year because of scheduling logistics.
Commissioner Rachel Grant reported she was appointed to the National Association of Counties’ federal health steering committee and that the committee’s agenda will include public health, disease prevention, health disparities, behavioral health, and services for the uninsured. Another commissioner noted being appointed to NACo’s justice and public safety steering committee and flagged a NACo webinar on legal considerations for federal funding disputes; presenters cautioned jurisdictions not to rely on favorable court orders in other cases if they are not parties to those cases.
Other brief reports included fair-board metrics from this year’s county fair (aggregate attendance down about 2% but daily attendance spikes and higher revenues), a November 5 Alliance for Healthy South Sound forum and field visit related to the Chutes Estuary restoration, and a Kitsap County natural-resources asset-management webinar commissioners are reviewing as a potential model for local natural-infrastructure planning.
No formal actions were taken at the check-in on these reports; commissioners asked staff to circulate dates and follow up on scheduling and required resolutions.
