Under Sheriff Ruben Mancillas said the current contract with ViaPath expires in December, and staff plan to solicit bids for replacement services. Mancillas said the sheriff’s office receives a modest commission from video visits and phone calls that flows into the inmate concession fund—about $70,000 per year, he said—and that the office aims to secure terms that provide reliable service and fair pricing.
Commissioners asked the sheriff’s office to supply the RFP and the advertising materials; Mancillas said staff would email the documents to commissioners and ensure they were available for download.
No final contract award was made at the work session; staff requested permission to proceed with the RFP and to execute a contract after a successful procurement.
