Cerritos Economic Development Commission names Al Reyes chair, Grace Hu vice chair

The Cerritos Economic development Commission elected Commissioner Al Reyes as chair and Commissioner Grace Hu as vice chair at its inaugural meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9, by unanimous roll-call votes.
The leadership votes took place during the commission’s opening reorganization. Commissioner Chang nominated Al Reyes for chair; Commissioner Togley seconded the nomination. The commission then conducted a verbal roll-call that recorded aye votes from Commissioners Chang, Hu, Reyes and Togley. Later in the meeting, commissioners made a separate motion to confirm Grace Hu as vice chair, which passed by the same recorded margin.
The appointments followed staff remarks that the commission was being organized under the framework in the Cerritos Municipal Code and Ordinance No. 1049, which set parameters for the commission’s formation and meeting schedule. The commission is newly reinstated after City Council action earlier in 2025; the chair and vice chair will preside over monthly meetings and guide the commission’s advisory work to City Council.
No formal policy changes accompanied the leadership votes. Commissioners who spoke during the reorganization described the results as a unifying start for the new body and said they look forward to engaging with staff and the council on economic development initiatives in coming months.
The commission’s next regular meeting remains scheduled for Oct. 14, 2025, and commissioners said they intend to continue work that supports the City Council’s strategic plan goals.
