Section 5.11.7 adjusted to clarify interaction between paid parental leave and FMLA. - Policy 6.01, 6.15 and 6.17: Admissions, attendance and student suspension/expulsion sections adjusted to reflect the current list of state excuses for absences and to reference the district code of conduct. The suspension policy was clarified to state suspensions are considered excused absences and makeup work will be accepted unless listed exceptions apply. - Policy 6.25 (mental-health opt-in services): The proposed age for opt-in services was adjusted from 14 to 16 years old. Two exclusions were added: (1) suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation and (2) immediate necessity for grief counseling. Several formatting and clarity edits were also noted. - Policy 6.27: Withdrawal procedures clarified when a parent wants to withdraw a child from district schools. - Policy 7.03 and 7.06: Academic standards and nontraditional learning sections expanded to clarify weighted grades and to update dual enrollment language aligning district guidelines with ALSDE recommendations for postsecondary credit. - Policy 7.08 (graduation and commencement): The proposed change removes a required minimum enrollment time in Hoover City Schools to be eligible as a valedictorian and clarifies valedictorian selection is driven by GPA criteria rather than an arbitrary limit on the number of valedictorians.
