Burrillville School Committee approves warrants, bids, personnel actions and policy withdrawal

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Burrillville School Committee approved the August warrant totaling $2,828,690.39, awarded a plumbing services bid, accepted resignations and appointments, approved homeschool applications and voted to withdraw an obsolete job-description policy.
The Burrillville School Committee on Sept. 9 approved routine fiscal and personnel items, a service contract, and voted to withdraw an older job-description policy.
The committee voted to approve school warrant number 2 for August, with a grand total of $2,828,690.39. Donovan Allen moved to approve the warrant; Sean Vosin seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
The committee approved a bid for plumbing services from Anytime Plumbing and Heating, authorizing a master plumber rate of $125 per hour. Donovan Allen moved the bid; Sylvia Saint Pierre seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
On personnel business the committee accepted resignations including Brianna Roy (TLC paraprofessional) effective Sept. 1, 2025, and Ashley Spavold (paraprofessional, Burrill Middle School) effective Aug. 15, 2025, and received and filed subsequent appointments. Donna Sanales made the motion to accept resignations; Sylvia Saint Pierre seconded. The motions carried on voice votes.
The committee approved the minutes of the Aug. 12, 2025 regular meeting after a motion by Donovan Allen and a second by Sean Vosin.
The committee approved the district's homeschool applications for the 2025-26 year. The superintendent reported there are 72 homeschool applicants currently on file. Sylvia Saint Pierre moved to approve the homeschool applications; Jill Calipay seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Finally, the committee voted to withdraw the district's long-standing job-description policy (originally adopted circa 2000). Superintendent Dr. Salito told the committee the policy has proved burdensome because creating a new position under that rule would require two committee meetings (first and second readings) before posting, potentially delaying hiring by at least two months. Donison Allen moved to withdraw the policy; Sean Vosin seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Most approvals were recorded as voice votes with the committee giving unanimous "Aye" responses when prompted by the chair. The meeting adjourned following a motion by Donison Allen and a second by Sylvia Saint Pierre.
