Development services highlights National Preparedness Month; signs up residents for Perris Alerts

The City of Perris development services emergency management team presented information on National Preparedness Month at the Sept. 9 council meeting, urging residents to prepare household emergency plans and disaster supply kits and to sign up for the city’s emergency notification system.
Veronica Arana, city building and safety manager for Development Services Emergency Management, said the FEMA initiative “Prepare to Protect, Preparing for Disasters is Protecting Everyone You Love.” Arana encouraged families to make an emergency plan, assemble a disaster kit with essentials such as food, water, medication and important documents, and to stay informed about local hazards.
Arana announced the city’s Perris Alerts notification system and invited residents to sign up by scanning a QR code shown at the meeting or by texting 67283. She said the city will host free CPR and first‑aid certification courses this fall and will participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill on Oct. 16. The emergency management team also noted ongoing community training offerings, such as active‑shooter and CPR courses, and said staff has pursued grants to keep those workshops free to the public.
Council thanked staff for the presentation and for outreach efforts around preparedness.
