Summary
Peninsula Clean Energy announced a ribbon cutting for a 143‑charger installation at a Bayview condominium and described past local projects including EV chargers and solar on public buildings; the group will host an EV and energy showcase in Millbrae on Sept. 13.
Peninsula Clean Energy officials told the Millbrae City Council on Sept. 9 that the agency has supported local solar and electric vehicle charging projects and plans a ribbon cutting for a large residential installation in Millbrae.
Mark Kirschman, Peninsula Clean Energy—s director of government affairs and a former Millbrae mayor, said the Bayview condominium installation provides 143 electric vehicle chargers — effectively one charger per parking space — and called it among the largest multi‑unit residential charger installations west of the Mississippi. Kirschman invited council members and residents to the ribbon cutting set for Sept. 20 and said attendees should RSVP because the site is a private residence.
Kirschman described Peninsula Clean Energy—s local programs, noting the agency helped install Level 2 E3 chargers at City Hall, the Recreation Center and the Courtyard and is supporting solar installations at civic buildings including the library and the Jacuti building. He said Millbrae residents and the county have realized roughly $4 million in cumulative savings from Peninsula Clean Energy generation rates over nearly a decade of service; countywide savings approached $200 million, staff said.
Peninsula Clean Energy will also co‑host an EV and energy showcase on Sept. 13 at the Millbrae Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will include EV owners displaying vehicles, information on rebates and incentives, induction‑cooktop demonstrations and a chance for residents to ask installers about charging for multifamily housing. Kirschman and city staff highlighted challenges and incentives for adding chargers at condos and apartments and said agency staff can help owners navigate the process.
Council members and the city manager thanked Peninsula Clean Energy for its partnership and for prioritizing Millbrae projects during grant and program planning. The council did not take a formal vote on the presentation; it was an informational report and invitation to city events.
