Perris introduces largest Youth Advisory Committee cohort; calendar of fall events announced

The City of Perris introduced its 2025–26 Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) membership and officers. City staff and YAC leaders announced upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and a partnership with the Perris Valley Chamber for a civic engagement workshop.
The City of Perris welcomed the incoming 2025–26 Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and introduced the students and committee leadership at the Sept. 9 council meeting.
Lou Yang, recreation coordinator and YAC liaison for the Parks and Community Services Department, introduced the cohort and recognized 18 graduating seniors from the prior year. Yang invited each incoming member to state their name, school and committee role.
Melanie Lopez, YAC president and a senior at Newby Bridal Early College High School, announced fall activities and public volunteer events: YAC will assist at the end‑of‑summer Splash event on Friday, Sept. 12 at Enchanted Hills Park; the next YAC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. in council chambers; a park cleanup is set for Saturday, Sept. 20 at Mercado Park with a 7:30 a.m. check‑in and an 8 a.m. start; and a civic engagement workshop for YAC members is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 5–7 p.m. in council chambers in partnership with the Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Council members congratulated the students. Several council members encouraged the students to document their community service for future college or job applications and thanked staff for supporting the program. After introductions, the council and YAC took a group photo at the dais.
