Lancaster City Council approved a rental agreement to lease a vacant Lancaster Housing Authority property on Elm Avenue just south of Milling Street to Street Company for use as a community farm.
Nicole (staff presenter identified as administrative staff for parks/facilities) told the council the site had historically functioned as a community garden. The organization received a county grant to convert the lot into a community farm; staff said proceeds would be reinvested in the company to expand food availability and job opportunities.
David Harris of Community Development Center USA spoke in support, describing longstanding work in the Antelope Valley and saying he endorsed the organization and its proposed operations at the Elm Avenue site.
A council motion to approve the item passed with three yes votes; Council Members Molly and Mayor Perez were recorded absent.
Ending: City staff will finalize the rental agreement with Street Company and proceed with lease execution and site preparation under routine administrative processes.
