Curriculum updates: IU‑20 agreement, First in Math invoice and AI guidance among items for Sept. 30

Dr. Draper (Curriculum & Instruction leadership) said the items for board approval include the annual intermediate-unit (IU 20) agreement to provide academic services in ELA and math to students from nonpublic schools, and the First in Math invoice covering district licenses for grades 6–12 (grades K–5 licenses were funded separately by a grant). Dr. Draper also said a Paxinosa teacher will request approval to attend an enhanced-core reading-instruction conference paid for by a SPELL grant.
Dr. Draper gave an update on grants: the district resubmitted the 2025–26 consolidated application after a temporary federal suspension of some Title funds; Title I funding has been released and other Title funds will be released after PDE approval. The Curriculum team also outlined professional-development plans: a K–12 math needs assessment with Jason Adair (data collection Sept. 17–25, classroom visits in late September, and post-analysis in October) and a differentiated professional-development day on Sept. 22 emphasizing AI in education. Dr. Draper said an AI committee of administrators and teachers is developing procedures and policies to integrate AI ethically and pedagogically, with a goal to present district AI procedures to the board by the end of the school year.
The Curriculum team listed additional priorities for the 2025–26 school year: enhance core and small-group instruction; create common secondary assessments; revise the elementary report card; and align English-language curricula districtwide.
What’s next: IU‑20 agreement, First in Math invoice (grades 6–12), and the conference request will appear on the Sept. 30 consent/approval agenda; Curriculum staff will continue the math needs assessment and AI policy work and report status updates to the board.
