Mitzi Garman told the board the district is close to filling a JROTC instructor position (authorization expected after Sept. 28 with a target start date Oct. 28), won a K‑12 robotics grant to expand robotics to South Grove and added light maintenance tasks to the custodial contract to reduce maintenance ticket load.
Mitzi Garman presented the personnel and operations report to the Beech Grove City Schools board Sept. 9, saying the district expects final authorization to hire a JROTC instructor sometime after Sept. 28 and is targeting Oct. 28 — immediately after fall break — to have the position filled.
Garman said the district won this year’s K‑12 robotics competition grant, which will expand robotics programming into South Grove and fund robotics for grades 2 through 8. She said the district’s community partner, Crossroad Engineers, has provided in‑kind support to satisfy the grant’s matching requirement.
On food service, Garman said the district’s summer food service program was audited this summer and returned “just one minor finding.” She said the district is beginning the renewal process for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Facilities and maintenance highlights included a leaking football press box roof that Triple A Roofing has agreed to inspect and has offered to donate membrane material if a replacement is needed. Garman also described a change negotiated with custodial services contractor HES: custodial staff will now handle some light maintenance at the building level and the district has implemented a new ticket system that routes requests through principals so tickets can be assigned either to HES or to the corporation maintenance staff.
Garman noted staffing stability in transportation and maintenance and acknowledged ongoing budget pressures as the district enters negotiations this year. She thanked longtime staff and outside partners for supporting operations.
The personnel report included a motion to approve submitted employment recommendations covering Aug. 8 through Sept. 4, 2025; the board approved the employment recommendations by voice vote.
