Polk County School Board recognizes athletics leaders and promotes multiple administrators

At its Sept. 9 meeting the board recognized athletic leaders for district awards and confirmed promotions and reassignments for multiple administrators across the district.
The Polk County School Board used its Sept. 9 regular meeting to recognize athletic leaders and to acknowledge a slate of administrative promotions and transfers.
Superintendent Hyde and other speakers recognized coach Terrence McGriff of Bartow High School for a 26-year coaching career including three state titles and multiple district and regional championships. Dan Talbot, head of the district athletics program, and Courtney Windemaker, senior coordinator of athletics, were also recognized for recent statewide and national honors; Windemaker received the Bernie Little Sports Executive of the Year award, and Talbot and McGriff were named national semifinalists for athletic administrator/coach awards.
The board recognized and confirmed several administrative promotions. Announced promotions and assignments included Pam Grimm to director of ESE compliance; Christine Harrison to acting principal at Anna Woodbury Elementary School; Ronald Kaufman to acting principal at R. Bruce Wagner Elementary; Seth Lambert to acting principal at Fort Meade Middle Senior High (not present); Lori May to acting principal at Brigham Academy; Celeste Stewart to director of preschool programs; Taryn Hardy to principal at Sickram Elementary; Alex McLuckie (transfer to Frostproof Middle Senior High; not present) and Eric Othison (assistant principal at Frostproof Ben Hill Griffin promoted to acting principal at Floral Avenue; present at the meeting). Several promoted administrators spoke briefly to thank the board and district staff.
The meeting also included multiple ceremonial recognitions for employees and nominees for teacher and employee of the year across districts. Board members and the superintendent praised the nominees and noted prize patrol visits to schools around the county.
The board offered condolences and remembrance for former board member Rick Nolte and acknowledged long-serving Ledger photographer Ernst Peters. Several board members highlighted community events, school openings and student activities as part of their district reports.
