Director of Schools Dr. Linda Cash reported on Sept. 9 that Bradley County Schools reduced chronic absenteeism — defined as students missing 10 or more days — by 244 students compared with the prior year and praised Prospect Elementary for lowering its rate to 10.8%, below the state average of 18.9%.
"If they're at school, they can learn," Cash said, describing attendance as a district priority. She also highlighted Brentwood/Waterville Elementary STEM activities on the district's "pie to go" bus and congratulated Bradley Central High School on receiving a TVOS level 5 district composite score (other TVOS data remain embargoed, she said).
Cash thanked staff members who aided a person without housing during a recent incident, singling out Kyle Page and Zach Pike for staying to ensure the individual was safe for the night. "That is by far above and beyond, and I wanted to thank them personally for that," she said.
Cash announced a Hopewell ground-breaking scheduled for Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. and reminded the board and public of fall break and upcoming staff development and work sessions about new school timelines.
