Land for Maine’s Future board approves appraisals, allocations for three conservation projects and several access and transfer actions

Brunswick: Pete Scott Reservoir The board accepted the appraisal oversight committee’s recommendation and accepted appraiser values totaling $880,000 for a 77‑acre transaction in Brunswick brought by the town. The staff report said the package includes a 45‑acre parcel to be acquired in fee as the settlement parcel and 32 acres of town‑owned shoreland to be covered as match under the project agreement. Public notice was advertised in the Portland Press Herald on Aug. 23; no comments were received.

The board confirmed an allocation of $357,500 in LMF conservation and recreation funding to support the acquisition, subject to standard conditions. The motion passed by voice vote; the record shows the board approved the appraisal acceptance and the funding allocation.

Cushing: Pleasant Point Gut water access The board approved the Town of Cushing’s proposal to purchase roughly 1.5 acres on Barnpool Lane in Pleasant Point Gut to create the town’s first public shoreline access there. The town will remove an existing pier and a shed, construct a parking area and a public boat launch, and encumber all 77 acres connected to the proposal with a project agreement. South Berwick: White Marsh Brook The board accepted the appraisal oversight committee’s reported value of $475,000 for White Marsh Brook in South Berwick, an upland‑forest and wetlands parcel noted by staff for habitat for Blandings turtle, spotted turtle and potential New England cottontail connectivity. The board then confirmed an allocation of $187,000 in LMF conservation and recreation funding to support the acquisition, subject to standard conditions; the motion carried.

Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation transfers The board approved the transfer of three LMF‑funded properties from the Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation to Downeast Coastal Conservancy (transcript: "Downey's Coastal Conservancy"), noting the foundation is winding down land‑holding operations.
