Facilities report: generators, playgrounds, track repairs and new gym floor for Salem High

Operations reported summer maintenance, HVAC and fire-system checks, playground work including a Bates pre-K/k ribbon cutting on Sept. 2, track repairs at Bertram Field and a state-and-city-funded portable gym floor for Salem High arriving in November.
Facilities and operations staff told the School Committee they completed 328 summer work orders, undertook painting and floor maintenance across schools, replaced HVAC filters and performed fire‑panel and sprinkler inspections.
The district said underground electrical work for a new outdoor generator at Bates is complete and the school expects the generator this fall; Collins will also receive a generator later this year and Witchcraft already has a new generator in place. Facilities said they will replace the fire pump at Bates.
Play-area work includes repairs and relining of the track at Bertram Field and replenishment of sand pits. A pre‑K and kindergarten playground at Bates is nearly complete and a ribbon cutting was scheduled for Sept. 2. The district noted that the Curtis playground—owned by the city and being redeveloped—may be unavailable to Carleton students for much of the year; the district described temporary play-space measures for Carleton.
Thanks to state and city funding and partnership with the legislative delegation, the district will acquire a portable wood gym floor for Salem High School, with installation expected in November. The district said the portable floor will allow the floor to be relocated to another school in about five years to extend its service life.
