Council updates Link Ranger housing agreement, makes renter’s insurance mandatory

The City Council on Sept. 8 approved a revised housing agreement for the “Link Ranger” residential property that replaces an agreement that had been in place for approximately 20 years. The council amended the agreement to require tenants to carry renter’s insurance rather than merely allowing them to purchase it.
During discussion, councilmembers urged that liability limits be sufficient to cover damage to the property in cases of tenant negligence. A councilmember noted typical renter’s-insurance premiums are modest and provide both liability protection for the city and coverage for tenants’ personal property.
The motion to approve the updated agreement with the mandatory insurance requirement passed on a roll-call vote; one member abstained, citing that she had not read the full agreement.
