Commission clarifies process for handicap placard applications, suggests tracking mail

At the Sept. 9 meeting the Revere Commission on Disabilities addressed several resident inquiries about handicap placards. Pauline Perna advised that placard applications are handled by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and must be mailed to the RMV address shown on the application rather than returned to the commission. Perna recommended applicants keep a copy of the completed form in case the mailed packet is lost.
Commission members said processing typically takes about six weeks and suggested applicants use tracked or certified mail for the application to reduce the risk of lost paperwork. The commission clarified that the Traffic Commission (not the Disability Commission) reviews and approves or denies requests for certain traffic‑related accommodations; the Disability Commission can provide information and direct residents to RMV resources.
