The Blowing Rock Art & History Museum announced a community oral‑history event to record residents’ memories of Hurricane Helene and its aftermath, museum staff told the Town Council on Sept. 9.
Steven Dragasick, the museum’s executive director, said the program will pair guided 30‑minute interviews with screening of documentaries about the storm’s aftermath. He told council the recordings will be preserved in multiple archives: a Blowing Rock history installation at the museum, Appalachian State University’s special collections and partner organizations such as StoryCorps and WFDD public radio, which will share selected interviews regionally and nationally.
Dragasick said the program is funded through a grant tied to hurricane recovery for the arts and invited residents to sign up at the museum website. He provided the council printed materials and a QR code for signups.
Council received the presentation; staff and the museum did not request town funding at the meeting. The museum encouraged residents to participate to ensure local experiences of Helene are documented for future research and preservation.
