Tanner’s Run repair plan progresses; easements signed, Army Corps review pending

County staff updated commissioners on Tanner’s Run emergency repairs and long‑term stabilization work on Sept. 8. Staff said easements for the collapsed opening have been signed and that they are awaiting Army Corps of Engineers approval before a contractor can schedule work. One contractor told staff they could complete the initial repair before September.
Staff and local officials plan to start with the collapsed pipe segment near an apartment complex where runoff has washed away a resident parking area and created a public hazard. The initial work is intended to reduce local pressure on the system and allow follow‑on watershed‑scale repairs; staff said the borough has withheld some bond release payments pending engineers’ confirmation that detention/infiltration facilities are functioning properly.
The county, borough and school district have walked the site and coordinated on sampling and engineering work. Staff emphasized that the first phase will focus on easement access and immediate stabilization; additional repairs and longer‑term watershed work will depend on Army Corps approvals, contractor availability and further engineering analyses.
State Rep. Joe Kerwin attended a public briefing on the issue, staff said. Staff will return with updates once Army Corps and contractor scheduling are complete.
