Western Nevada College President Kyle Dalpi addressed trustees during public comment to thank the Carson City School District for its collaboration on dual-enrollment programs and to summarize recent participation and awards.
Dalpi said the college partners with multiple districts and charters on dual-enrollment and reported that, in the Carson City School District last academic year, students were awarded 2,268 college credits. “We have 2,268 credits awarded to students in the Carson City School District last academic year,” Dalpi said. He added that 67 students were dual-enrollment participants who took classes while in high school, 60 students were classified as “jump start” participants pursuing degrees or certificates while still enrolled in high school, and the college awarded roughly nine Associate of Science and eight Associate of Arts degrees in May.
Why it matters: Dual-enrollment pathways give high-school students earlier access to college-level coursework and can accelerate credential attainment or reduce time to degree. Dalpi offered to provide a deeper presentation to the board if the district wishes to agendize it.
