Jefferson County Commission approves 80-item consent package, adopts minutes

The Jefferson County Commission on Aug. 28 unanimously adopted minutes from its Aug. 7 meeting and approved an 80-item consent package that had been vetted at a pre-commission meeting, commissioners said.
The vote to dispense the reading of the minutes and adopt them “as written” was moved from the floor and seconded; the commission then moved and seconded approval of the agenda and the consent package. Commissioners said no items were pulled from the consent list for separate consideration.
The commission paused to recognize three county employees who completed coursework through the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA) County Government Education Institute: Laura Carter, Sunnetta Moore and Kiara Morrow. A county staff member presented certificates to the employees and commissioners thanked them for completing continuing education to support county services.
Commissioners also used their time for brief announcements. Commissioner Tosh thanked Med Plus pharmacy for running recent on-site flu clinics at Bessemer and Birmingham locations and said the company will operate about 19 vaccination locations across Jefferson County offering influenza and other adult vaccinations. Separately, commissioners praised recent road maintenance work; one commissioner referenced roughly 150 miles of paving work the county has completed this year and credited a maintenance plan intended to help smaller municipalities address long-deferred needs such as roof repairs.
There were no recorded roll-call tallies for individual commissioners in the transcript; the chair declared the agenda motions carried after members answered “aye.” With no further business, the chair recessed the meeting.
