Council revokes condemnation for 916 Zelda; directs progress monitoring for 1016 Mountain Terrace

The Hurst City Council on Tuesday revoked a condemnation order for 916 Zelda after the property owner met inspection requirements, and the council discussed but did not take formal enforcement against 1016 Mountain Terrace, directing regular progress updates from the new owner.

Tanya Wilson, the city’s building official, told the council that the owner of 916 Zelda, identified in staff remarks as Miss Chavez, met the deadline and had passed an electrical inspection; she said the owner is eligible to request a final inspection and staff recommended revoking the condemnation order. A councilmember moved to revoke the 07/08/2025 condemnation order for 916 Zelda; the motion carried.

On 1016 Mountain Terrace, Wilson said the property was purchased in July 2025 and the new owner provided an approximate 12-week repair timeline. Wilson reported the owner and contractor have been responsive; the owner, Paul DeAngelo, spoke to the council and said he had encountered termite damage and sewer and electrical repairs. Council members said they would like biweekly progress reports and asked the owner to appear at council meetings until the work is complete. Wilson and council members said they would not force condemnation at this time.

For 916 Zelda, the motion to revoke the condemnation order was seconded and adopted by voice vote. For 1016 Mountain Terrace, no new condemnation motion was recorded; staff will continue inspections and receive reports every two weeks.

Council members praised progress on the properties and encouraged owners to keep staff informed as work proceeds.
