Board picks Oct. 9 for proclamation, seeks web page and short videos for Disability Awareness Month

Blaine Beyer, communications and marketing manager for the City of Abilene, told the board a disability-board web page is ready but currently hidden and can be sent to the board for review before going live.
"The web link ... is live, but it is hidden. If that is something you want to go live, I think we can send it to them for review," Beyer said. He described the page as containing agendas, recorded meetings and a contact form. Beyer also said the communications team is prepared to produce short interviews or videos featuring board members; turnaround time could be rapid but would depend on scheduling and approval.
Board members discussed two city council dates for a mayoral proclamation: Oct. 9 (consent item) and Oct. 23 (regular agenda with a public hearing). Members generally preferred Oct. 9 for an early-month proclamation and agreed to try to have the web page live that day; they also agreed to pursue videos and to try to have interviews recorded so short clips can be published on the web page and city social media during October and possibly tied to the Oct. 23 council meeting if approvals and scheduling allow.
Beyer said the communications team can publish the videos on the city website and social media; whether local TV partners will air produced clips is subject to the media partners' decisions. Board members agreed to sign up for interview times and asked communications to send the hidden web page link to Leslie for review and suggested using Oct. 9 as the announcement date while targeting additional content availability around Oct. 23.
