The Choctaw County Commission on June 10 approved a resolution to release the county’s proposed Solid Waste Management Plan for public comment and scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 12.
Commissioners were told the plan was prepared by consultant Plainfield and that state filing is required every 10 years. McCrissen, speaking to the commission, described the draft as tentative and said the county can revise the document after public comment. “This plan is a tentative plan. In theory, you could change after we see perceived, public comment,” McCrissen said.
The county’s agenda packet included a draft resolution to comply with the filing requirement. Commissioner Mosley moved to adopt the resolution and set the hearing; Commissioner Gautier seconded the motion. Commissioners voted in favor and the motion carried. County staff said they will run a public notice in the local newspaper the following week and that the county secretary will issue formal notice on Monday.
If no substantive changes result from public comment, staff said the draft plan would be submitted to the agency identified in the meeting record as “Aiden.” The transcript does not provide further details about that agency or the dollar impacts of the plan.
The public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12, and county staff will accept written and oral comments as provided in the published notice.
